BELOW ARE CANDIDATE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TYPICAL B-PAD TEST. SOME AGENCIES USE DIFFERENT FORMATS. THEY HAVE IN COMMON THE USE OF B-PAD PROPRIETARY VIDEO SCNEARIOS.

IN ADDITION TO THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW, POTENTIAL POLICE OFFICER OR LATERAL CANDIDATES NOW HAVE THE OPPORTIUNITY TO RECEIVE A FEE BASED TRAINING USING VIDEO SCENARIOS DIFFERENT FROM TEST VIDEOS. THE FOCUS OF THIS TRAINING IS DEVELOPING INTERPERSONAL SKILLS. CONTACT B-PAD FOR DETAILS.

What is B-PAD?

B-PAD is a video test: a structured, valid and fair method for seeing both entry-level and promotional candidates perform essential job functions before deciding to promote them or offer them a job. B-PAD is a test of a candidate’s interpersonal competence in dealing with different types of people in different job-specific situations.

How Does It Work?

  • You will be positioned in front of a workstation.  Be sure to remain in front of the webcam. A webcam recording will be made of your response to work related scenes.  After each video scene, always respond as if you were at the scene, speaking to a real person in a real situation.

  • You will be responding to each scene. You will observe a situation developing on the monitor. You will respond and the webcam will record you. After each scene please always respond as if you were talking to real people in a real situation.

  • Your responses will be evaluated by trained raters.
  • Entry level candidates will not be scored on your knowledge of any policies, procedures, or law. You will be assessed for your judgment, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills in dealing with different types of people in different situations.

  • Please respond in a manner that you believe will effectively resolve the situation.  Please address the full scope of the situation.  It is not required that you use the full time to respond.

  • If, as the result of a disability, you will need an accommodation in order to complete the video test, please contact your test coordinator.
  • There is a set-up at the start to make sure the webcam is properly recording the video and audio.  Play back the test recording to make sure the audio and video are correct. Follow the on screen instructions for the set-up.  If you have any problems, contact your test coordinator.
